Family Misfortune That Pushed Oparanya to Have Two Wives and a Girlfriend
CS Wycliffe Oparanya, former Kakamega Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader, has opened up about the personal journey that led him to embrace polygamy revealing that family misfortunes and maternal influence shaped his decision to have two wives and a girlfriend.
In a candid interview on KTN’s Art of Living with Nailantei Kenga, Oparanya shared that he was the only surviving child among five siblings, a tragedy that deeply impacted his outlook on family.

“My mother told me to have more children so that we congregate,” he explained. “That’s why I am very sincere. People here know that when I say something, it’s happening.
I don’t cheat.” His philosophy on relationships centers on openness and care, which he says has helped him maintain harmony among his partners.
Oparanya is married to Priscilla and Carolyn Oparanya, both of whom have stood by him through his political career. He also has a girlfriend, Mary Biketi, who has become a public figure in her own right.

Biketi, known for her bold personality and social media presence, clarified in a previous interview that she considers herself a wife and respects the other women in Oparanya’s life.
“I am not afraid. He is a polygamous man, and I respect the other wives,” she said.
Oparanya revealed that his wives and girlfriend are on friendly terms, with Biketi occasionally visiting to greet them. “My wife can’t complain because I take good care of her every day,” he added.
During the interview, Oparanya also gave viewers a tour of his expansive Kakamega home, which includes a chopper landing area and space to host over 3,000 guests.

He shared his wish to be buried close to his parents, whose final resting place is within the estate.
Oparanya’s openness has sparked national conversation about polygamy, family legacy, and the emotional roots behind personal choices offering a rare glimpse into the private life of one of Kenya’s seasoned political figures.
