POLITICAL PARTIES IN KENYA
Kenya, for long time was a single-party state until December of 1991 when the special conference of the ruling party KANU agreed to introduce a multi-party. Introduction of parties made President Moi to dissolve the parliament on 28th of October 1992 that was exactly 5 months before the end of his rule.
Forum of restoration Democracy was formed to face the fierce KANU in the 1992 election. KANU won the presidential race and was to continue to carry its flag in the top most. Ford Kenya was divided into 2 the FORD-K of Oginga Odinga and Ford -Asili of Kenneth Matiba that was the second in 1992 election. Ford Kenya lost its meaning after loosing elections and making it unpopular to Kenyans.
In 1997 Election KANU won the election, Kibaki’s Democratic was the second. In 2002 Kibaki and Raila merged to form a winning coalition National Rainbow Coalition that made Kibaki to end the long standing Dominance of KANU. Uhuru Kenyatta was filled for KANU but he wept at the ballot. It was the first national general election that was truly since independence.
In 2007, the NARC coalition broke up Parties were formed to win election. Raila formed Orange Democratic Movement and Kibaki formed Party of National Unity that each was the flag bearer. PNU won the election. This was the start of KANU perishing. It was loosing its popularity.
In 2013, political parties were formed to win elections ODM and TNA had coalitions
ODM’s Coalition of reforms and democracy and TNA’s Jubilee were the main parties. Jubilee won the 2013 and 2017 elections. On its second term, Jubilee lost its meaning and its worth by loosing in by-election like no other business.
History repeats itself.
United Democratic Alliance was formed Ruto who deputized President Uhuru Kenyatta to succeed him in 2022 Election after Jubilee party become wild to him.
Up to now Kenya has 75 fully Registered Political Parties since Independence. ODM remains the biggest political party in Kenya because in 2022 it will be going for the fourth Election in history.
Every Election time coalitions are formed to win elections after it, the roots of the party can’t be traced as it becomes less popular. Unlike in United States of America’s Republicans party that have had 19 Presidents.
You don’t need to climb top of KICC to see that Kenya political parties end after election.
Small parties are reaping. On September 2021 Gideon Moi was endorsed on a KANU ticket to fill 2022 election to restore
KANU after 40 years of ruling.
We are in the move let’s keep our eyes open and vote in our best.
